An Open Letter

December 26, 2009

Dear 2009,

I cherish with fondness the day (before) I met you.  Your January hopefulness was tantamount to hopelessness.  I’ll be ctrl-alt-deleting your memory with no reservations and I’m not finished, No!

Regards, Daniel

Mock Ironic? Oh god I hope so, I fear not

December 24, 2009

The train went off the rails round bout 9PM, Christmas Eve.  I got an email on my phone from a friend in Chicago with the subject line “Happy Holidays”.  I had already received a dozen or so similar personal notes with the same greeting so I casually opened it in no way prepared for the message I was about to receive.   In hindsight there is no preparing for something like this.

First off, it was not a personal message, it was a mass email to family, friends and co-workers.  How do I know?  Well, Cause we are all openly CC’d for the world to see.  But not only were our emails visible but also our relationships to the sender, I had no idea how to reach your Aunt Jeanette but hey now I do!

The body of this very short email opens with these words  ” I know I am terriable…however due to lack of time…this is my poor attempt of a Christmas card. “ (note:  I personally would not spell terrible with an “A”, I realize that depending on the regional accents or personal speech impediments that it may sound right, I assure you its not!)

Anyway, after that well orchestrated opening there are like one more sentence and then the text just sort of stops.  No closing, not even a name it’s as if she passed ou……)

Isn’t that annoying when people just stop for no good reason or conclusion?

That’s fine, we haven’t even gotten to the best part…. the attached photo.  It’s not just any photo, this is a very special one, so special in fact that it was required to be 3MB!  That is freakin huge!

This very special 3MB image was of her two kids not looking particularly cute or even Christmasy, hell the most festive thing visible in the photo were those red christmas lights on their faces – oh wait, sorry, thats just redeye, Ooops!  Well good thing the photo is so blurry, makes it hard to tell.  But hey Carrie, thanks for the card!

Most Played in ’09

December 22, 2009

I considered doing a personal “best of” list for the year but I realized that many of the songs I liked best may not have been actually been released this year so rather than researching all of the release dates and liberally applying asterisks I consulted the iTunes play counter and did a screenshot of the songs I listened to most in the past year.

Christmas Delivery (weather pending)

December 20, 2009

Doing my best to mail myself home for Christmas.  It’s been a long time since I’ve lived in New England, perhaps I will stay (at least for a awhile)

Open up Google and type in “Why are americans so”  then wait a second and look at the possible answers Google will provide you with.  Interesting….
